Investor Mining and Tailings Safety Initiative

The Investor Mining & Tailings Safety Initiative is an investor-led initiative to improve disclosure standards around tailings management in the extractive industry. Led by the Church of England Pensions Board and the Swedish Council on Ethics for the AP Pension Funds, the Initiative consists of 96 institutional investors representing over US$10.3 trillion in assets under management. In April 2019, the Initiative wrote to 683 extractive companies requesting that they disclose information about their Mine Tailings Storage in a common reporting format, and that the information be published on their respective websites and accompanied with a certification by their CEO or Board Chair.

On August 2, 2019, McEwen Mining was contacted with a request for the company to participate in the initiative. McEwen Mining is pleased to provide the response letter from our CEO, Rob McEwen, along with the “Mine Tailings Disclosure Table” requested by the Initiative. This information provides a brief overview of our tailings management system and other information that may be of value to our stakeholders.
